Floor Coatings for Businesses

The Better Alternative to Commercial Epoxy Flooring

The benefits of a 100% polyaspartic floor coating far outweigh those of other industrial flooring options like commercial epoxy floor paint — especially if your business experiences high traffic daily. While epoxy floor coatings flake, peel and yellow over time, commercial polyaspartic flooring lasts and lasts. Polyaspartic floor coatings cure much faster, too, so your business will experience far less costly downtime.

Polyaspartic Commercial Flooring vs. Epoxy Flooring

When you think of commercial floor coatings, you probably think of epoxy coatings. That’s because “epoxy” has become a generic term for just about any kind of industrial flooring. But there are other options available, including polyaspartic floor coatings, which are just as attractive but far more durable. Here are three key reasons why polyaspartic is the leading choice for commercial concrete coatings:

Epoxy coatings go on thick and molasses-like, so they just sit on top of the concrete surface. Polyaspartic floor coatings are almost water-like when applied, so they run and find every tiny crack, crevice and pore. That means when they cure, they become one with the concrete beneath them, which means they’re far less likely to peel, flake or delaminate.

Epoxy coatings can initially seem less expensive than polyaspartics. But when you consider that an epoxy floor may have to be reapplied two to three times to equal the longevity of a single polyaspartic floor coating, it’s easy to see that the opposite is true — especially when it comes to a large industrial space.

Epoxy floors are extremely hard and brittle when they dry. If you drop a heavy tool on them, the coating can crack, allowing water to seep beneath it. This can lead to delamination and other problems over time. Despite their granite-like look and feel, polyaspartic floors are somewhat flexible and much more resistant to sudden impacts.

Permanent Bond

When epoxy coating fails in laboratory testing, it peels away from the concrete surface below. But in tests with polyaspartic flooring, the concrete surface itself fails before the coating does. That’s because, unlike epoxies, the polyaspartic material bonds permanently with the concrete surface beneath it.

It is unlikely you would experience success if you did. Approximately 80% of floor coating success comes down to surface preparation. We have the specialized tools (walk-behind grinders and industrial vacuums) and the expertise to get it done right the first time. We ensure your company’s concrete is free of damage, cracks and abrasions that cause other methods to fail. We also test the moisture of your concrete slab with a professional tool to ensure the material will adhere properly.

In a word, yes. That’s why it’s been the choice of warehouses, factories and other industrial applications for 40 years. Plus, only polyaspartic commercial floor-coating technology offers granite-like looks and durability and cures much faster than industrial epoxy flooring.
